Why are your prices so much lower than the
competition?
We begin by determining what services and products you truly need and bundle
them together as a package. We don’t believe in selling you products that
have already come with your computer or can be obtained for free, nor should
you pay extra for services that are intrinsically related.
In addition, we believe that by keeping
overhead down, we can pass the savings on to our customers. Unlike our
competition, we don’t resort to gimmicky sales pitches, large store fronts,
or cars covered in obnoxious ads.
Why should I be worried about
someone getting into my computer?
Think about what we keep on our computers for a
moment…banking programs, personal email, online purchase orders, tax
returns, family
pictures, and credit card information. In the wrong hands, this
information can be used to not only steal your identity, but threaten the
welfare of you and your family.
Really, how likely is it that someone will
attempt to get at the personal information on my computer?
The sad truth is that if you are online reading
this, someone is trying to get to your information right now. There are
programs hackers use that systematically check for security holes while
potential victims are online. In addition, online threats are not the only
one’s trying to get your information. A great deal of ID theft is done by
someone physically getting on your computer. Whether by theft of you
computer, or by someone the victim knows—it happens when you least expect
it.
I
already have an anti-virus program and Windows XP, isn’t that enough
protection?
Anti-virus programs and Windows XP features
can protect you online; however they must be configured correctly.
Unfortunately, most people do not configure these programs correctly, and
they only offer protection while online. Spyware is also a growing problem
that anti-virus programs and Windows XP are unable to shield against.
Additional steps should be taken to safeguard against physical access to the
computer should an unauthorized user try to access it, including physical
firewalls, proper passwords, and proper configuration of existing software.
It should be noted that every computer SafeTNet has worked on to date has
had anti-virus software and still had viruses on it.
What is the difference between Windows XP
firewall (or other software firewalls) and a physical (router) firewall?
First, let’s define firewall: a firewall acts
as a barrier, or wall, between your computer and the internet. Windows XP
is a software firewall and offers minimal protection from online threats.
In essence, someone who wants to “crack” into your computer knows that it
exists and can see you from the internet. A hardware firewall, such as a
router, makes your computer invisible to others on the internet. It is
analogous to walking by a glass wall while window shopping or turning the
corner and finding a brick wall. When a thief walks by the glass wall, (the
software firewall), he can see that there is something behind the wall, and
will devise a way to get at it. On the other hand, if he walks by the brick
wall, the thief doesn’t know what’s behind the wall, and will move on to
find an easier target.
